Pentapharm has introduced its new anti-stretch mark solution REGU-STRETCH, an innovative complex to prevent and treat striae.
The experience of Pentapharm – which is part of DSM – in peptide synthesis as well as organic plant extraction combined with DSM’s vitamins know-how has made possible the development of the first active ingredient issued from the synergy between both companies.
Stretch marks are known as striae in dermatology – they are scars occurring on specific skin surfaces. It is believed that stretch marks are due to quick stretching of the skin accompanied by quicker development such as puberty growth, fast weight gain, body building, etc.
Preventing stretch marks means strengthening the skin to face the large tensions it is subjected to during specific growth.
The difficulty in showing the protecting effect of an ingredient has been an issue during the development of the active ingredient and Pentapharm did first focus on the development of a proper assay in its Cell Culture Laboratory.
The design of this in vitro screening model is a simulation of skin stretching in a glass/acryl box by stretching a monolayer of fibroblasts’ cultures. With this innovative method, Pentapharm succeeded in identifying compounds capable of protecting the skin as well as reducing the inflammation process during stretching. These are key elements in the prevention of stretch marks. An additional in vitro screening carried out at BIOExigence in France confirmed the repairing effect of the identified ingredients.
In vivo tests confirmed the anti-stretch marks activity of REGU-STRETCH.
REGU-STRETCH, offered as a paraben-free, glycerine-based aqueous solution, has been thoroughly tested.
