Global minerals producer Omya has launched Cosmospheres, which it developed with its Swiss distribution partner, Rahn. These are based on natural microcrystalline cellulose plus either lactose or vegan mannitol, and are available in different sizes and colours for the transportation of actives.
Cosmopheres are supplied hard and dry but when mixed into liquids, they swell to release the active they are loaded with. These could be colour pigments, oils, vitamins, fragrances and cooling or warming sensory agents. Applications range from skin and hair care to colour cosmetics, hygiene and oral care products
“Low friction during application allows the cells to break and release their content, mixing with the other ingredients while leaving no residue … Moreover, the formulation offers aesthetically pleasing visual effects,” the company added.
