LipoTrue has shared some new results for its iPeptide, which has also won the 2021 BSB Innovation bronze prize. The company describes iPeptide as “a good sleep biohacking peptide, developed to down-regulate IL-33 expression”.
IL-33 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is released when cell damage activates the immune response, and induces oxidative stress and further inflammation. It is over-expressed in conditions of chronic inflammation like atopic dermatitis and obstructive sleep apnoea.
In test in vivo, iPeptide was shown to modulate chronic inflammation and the damage induced by hyperglycaemia due to sleep deprivation. It also has a melatonin-like protection effect and reinforces the first line of immune defence.
Insufficient sleep is associated with chronic low-grade inflammation, oxidative stress, impaired immune response, reduced melatonin levels and elevated glucose levels. These all induce more oxidative stress and inflammation, resulting in a tired look, hanging eyelids, dark circles, eyebags and wrinkles.
The company found that, among a panel volunteers who self-assessed their sleep patterns after using a cream containing 3% iPeptide and sleeping for five to six hours per day for 28 days:
· 73% had a feeling of having slept all night
· 83% experienced refreshed skin
· 63% experienced a cooling effect
· 69% enjoyed an anti-fatigue effect
