US-based Praan Naturals is introducing organic virgin amaranth oil (INCI: Amaranthus Hypochondriacus (Amaranth) Seed Oil) to its range of more than 500 certified organic and conventional natural ingredients for personal care product development. This is sourced from certified organic amaranth seeds cultivated in Ukraine.
Also known as Prince-of-Wales Feather, Prince’s Feather and Love-Lies-Bleeding, the amaranth is a flowering plant whose seeds have long been used for culinary, medicinal and topical applications. It comprises mainly linoleic acid and is also said to be an excellent source of squalene and vitamin E.
According to Praan, organic virgin amaranth oil helps to maintain radiant skin by supporting normal skin elasticity and helping to minimise the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also helps to condition and protect the hair and scalp in hair care formulations.
