Clariant has agreed to acquire the 70% of Brazilian speciality personal care company Beraca that it did not own already from the founding Sabará family. This should close in Q4, subject to regulatory approvals. Terms were not disclosed.
Beraca makes natural ingredients for personal care, including fats, oils and botanicals. These are sourced in the Amazon region and collected and extracted in an environmentally sustainable way. It employs 90 and had sales of $15 million in 2020, having invested significantly since Clariant first took a stake in it in 2015.
Clariant described the acquisition as “a relevant building block in the strategy of further strengthening individual core business areas through targeted acquisitions”, as well as giving it more access to the natural materials it is emphasising. Beraca will be integrated into its Care Chemicals business area.
