BASF Care Creations has launched Seanactiv, an organic, marine algae-derived ingredient for rapid improvement in eye contour appearance. Seanactiv is sourced from fucus vesiculosus, more commonly known as bladder wrack, an organism that lives underwater, on rocks or in sand at different times, making it resistant to different conditions and temperature variations.
The algae are harvested manually in line with good practice to ensure regeneration of the biomass, and are extracted via a gentle, selective procedure. The active fucoidan molecule present in them has long been used for its beneficial properties in food, health and beauty. The product is soluble in water, 99.8% from natural origin and complies with the COSMOS standard for natural and organic cosmetics.
In a clinical study with 24 female volunteers aged 18-65, Seanactiv formulated at 1% in a cream was shown to improve the appearance of dark circles within just one week. Skin pigmentation intensity was 11% reduced and skin roughness 14% reduced leading to a visible improvement in the appearance of crows’ feet wrinkles. It also visibly improved skin luminosity in the eye area, the company said.
