Symrise has developed Lilybelle, a lily of the valley fragrance ingredient for personal care and other applications. It is based on D-limonene, a by-product of orange juice manufacturing, so that 83% of it is composed of renewable raw materials. It is also readily biodegradable.
According to Symrise, Lilybelle “emphasises the flowery scent of lily of the valley in perfumes, providing ozonic green facets and lightly aqueous transparent accents. All in all, Lilybelle brings freshness and a certain lightness to fragrance.”
The scent of lily of the valley flowers has played an important role in perfumery, thanks to its transparency, freshness and naturalness. It is used in combination with citrus notes, particularly often in men’s fragrances.
“We have integrated sustainability as a major component of our corporate strategy,” said Susanne Borchert, senior marketing manager at Symrise. “With its high proportion of renewable raw materials, Lilybelle provides an excellent example of the application of the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry.”
