Jungbunzlauer has announced that as part of their Vision 2030 strategy, a group-wide interdisciplinary sustainability group has been implemented to build knowledge and work cross-functionally.
The group will work as one team on short and long-term goals to ensure products are sourced and manufactured in a fair, ethical and environmentally sustainable way.
For Jungbunzlauer's long-term goal Carbon Neutral 2050, the company is working to minimise greenhouse gases emitted from their factories and aim for a steady reduction of waste and optimal recycling streams.
Successfully tested energy saving programs have been rolled out at all their facilities. As a result of these discussions, various small and large savings projects were put into place.
At Jungbunzlauer's Austrian plant Pernhofen, they improved the heat recovery systems in different areas of the plant. At the Canadian plant in Port Colborne, an additional heat recovery project was implemented to reduce the thermal energy consumed. Water consumption was reduced by 10% by improving water recovery from the Welland Canal. At their German plant in Ladenburg, new LED lights have been installed throughout the facilities to further increase energy savings and with improved recycling (separate paper collection) we were able to decrease general waste by 10%. At their French plant in Marckolsheim, they implemented a new volatile organic compounds treatment unit.
