Naturally-derived fullerenes as cosmetic raw materials

As the popularity of sustainability has increased worldwide, it is now desirable to switch from fossil-fuel-derived to plant derived chemicals.

The raw materials and image associated with cosmetics tend to be strongly plant-derived and nature-oriented. In addition, the enactment of ISO 16128, which serves as an indicator for the level of natural and organic ingredients in cosmetics, has allowed consumers to easily discover where their cosmetics come from.

‘Clean Beauty’ is a cosmetic term that consumers look for in their products. Although there is no clear definition of Clean Beauty, the term generally refers to natural or synthetic cosmetics that consist of only the necessary components for the skin. Therefore, there has been a demand for ingredients that provide multiple effects. 

Although more than 15 years have passed since Japan’s Vitamin C60 BioResearch Corporation (VC60) began marketing fullerene cosmetic ingredients, these ingredients are in line with these modern trends and continue to evolve. In this paper, we will present VC60’s latest information regarding fullerene cosmetic ingredients.
