Amerchol has introduced a new range of conditioning polymers for hair care applications.
SoftCAT SX Polymers incorporate medium levels of hydrophobic modification in medium- and high-viscosity grades to deliver maximum conditioning and deposition performance, superior to that of other conditioning polymers such as cationic guar.
These benefits make SoftCAT SX Polymers ideal for use in shampoo applications for volume control, extra conditioning, and extra manageability. The polymers are very suitable for products designed for Asian hair types.
“Within the hair care market, we’ve seen an increased demand for products that provide better conditioning and manageability to promote a smooth, sleek look,” said Denise Elias, global marketing manager. “We developed the SX series of SoftCAT Polymers to provide these performance benefits, in addition to the enhanced conditioning and deposition properties that this family of polymers is already known for.”
In subjective panel testing, frizzy hair tresses treated with a shampoo formulation containing the SoftCAT SX Polymer were found to have better volume control, dry feel, and dry comb properties, even when the amount of silicone used in the formulation was significantly reduced.
“We designed SoftCAT SX Polymers to be very efficient at depositing beneficial ingredients such as silicones and fragrances,” Denise Elias stated. “This advantage improves the sensory properties of formulations, especially spa and aromatherapy products, where a rich lather and long-lasting fragrance is important.”
SoftCAT Polymers are derived from cellulose, a naturally abundant, renewable resource. Four product grades are available, with a range of molecular weights and solution viscosities to meet various formulating needs.
