Kemira introduces GMP for titanium dioxide

Kemira Pigments Oy, the Finnish titanium dioxide manufacturer, has become the first producer to manufacture titanium dioxide in a Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) standard plant. It has invested US$10 million in a new state-of-the-art grinding and packaging unit at its factory located in Pori, on the west coast of Finland. This Kemira plant is the largest sulphate route plant in the world with 130,000 MT per year.

With 40 years’ experience in titanium dioxide, Kemira is currently concentrating on niche areas such as high quality printing inks and food, drugs and cosmetics (FDC) markets. Kemira sees its AFDC pigment as the market leader in high purity titanium dioxide for FDC, and anticipates strong growth in these market segments.

Since 1992, Kemira Pigments Oy has been ISO 9001 certified. This has given Kemira a solid basis when expanding its portfolio to cover high purity products aimed at the FDC market. Delivering on a global basis, Kemira AFDC is in compliance with various international regulations such as the pharmacopoeias in Europe, US, and Japan and the food additive requirements stipulated by the European Directive E171 and the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

By implementing GMP principles into the daily manufacturing process of high purity titanium dioxide, Kemira Pigments is demonstrating specialised business commitment and continuous application of expertise.
