Lonza introduces new skin enhancer

Lonza's Personal Care Business Unit has launched LaraCare A200, a cosmetic skin care ingredient obtained through its recent acquisition of Larex Inc's Larch Arabinogalactan business.

Derived from larch trees harvested in North America, LaraCare A200 (INCI: Galactoarabinan) is a polysaccharide, extracted and purified through a patented process to meet the growing demand for natural ingredients in the cosmetic industry.

LaraCare A200 is a natural, mild, and water-soluble polymer which enhances emulsion stability, reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and provides moisture control in formulations. This product also promotes AHA exfoliation on skin, can improve the appearance of superficial fine lines in skin, provides film forming and skin tightening, improves the uniformity and spreadability of a formulation and provides SPF enhancement.

This natural polysaccharide, galactoarabinan (GA), is a natural polymer linked with sugar units consisting of galactose and arabinose in the ratio of 6:1 respectively. Unlike many other natural products, LaraCare A200 displays a synthetic-like consistency, characterised in part by its narrowly peaked molecular weight distribution and high intrinsic purity. It has found many unique properties and benefits in personal care applications and imparts multi-functionality to water-based systems.
