Consumers of different ages increasingly expect cosmetic products to prevent and reduce the signs of ageing, and to keep their skin firm, supple and elastic, states Laboratoires STrobiologiques (LS).
Boosting collagen synthesis has been recognised as a key approach in anti-ageing for some time. LS’s in-depth research into the subject of skin ageing has revealed that the way the collagen fibrils are organised is just as important in keeping skin youthful as the total number of them.
A study conducted by LS has highlighted the crucial role that proteoglycans – small proteinsugar complexes – play in organising collagen fibres, and consequently in maintaining the integrity of the extra-cellular matrix (ECM).
Based on these findings, LS has designed Dermican, a synthetic tetrapeptide with a unique anti-ageing action that targets the metabolism of a specific proteoglycan – lumican – to enhance the skin’s strength and firmness.
