China focuses on hygiene practice

A special notice concerning the management of hygiene practice in the cosmetics’ industry in mainland China has been issued, writes the International Cosmetics (Asia Pacific) Joint Development Centre (ICJDC).

It is stated that the following work should be accomplished on or before 31 December 2006: At least 95% of licensed enterprises involved with hair dyeing products manufactured after 1 January 2006, should be inspected and checked. For cosmetics’ sales surveillance, each province should target at least three cities for inspection and involve at least 80% enterprises from each city. Special attention will be given to the very large enterprises.

Special hygiene quality surveillance attention will be given to those involved with products for patch removing, whitening, acne and pox alleviation, and mite-dispelling.

It is believed that the Chinese Government is resolute in sustaining renovation and consolidation in the Chinese cosmetics industry, and is strengthening its efforts in this area. Some cosmetics, and especially those in the whitening and anti-acne market segments, which fall short of Ministry of Health standards will be eliminated. In the meantime, many large scale and famous enterprises in the market are ready to cooperate with the Government to eradicate counterfeit goods. By introducing some new, high quality and up-to-standards products in China, they would like to rebuild consumers’ confidence in domestic cosmetics, thus further enhancing the prospects for these.
