Uniqema expands presence

Uniqema Personal Care continues to expand its presence in Asia, announcing – at the Personal Care Ingredients Asia event held recently in Seoul, Korea – a host of speciality ingredients and formulating tools, and its latest formulating contest.

The company is responding to the rapid growth in demand for personal care products, providing formulators with the option to produce higher value products from new functional offerings such as the Arlatone V-150 emulsifier system and the Arlasilk Phospholipid PTM speciality ingredient designed to reduce formulators’ reliance on traditional preservatives. A new formulating guide called Q-element has also been made available.

During PCIA, Uniqema announced the start of the First Korea Formulating Contest, calling on personal care product developers in the country to submit their best concepts for rinse-off and leave-in products. Each contestant is invited to submit one or more product concepts in both the rinse-off and leave-on categories, using at least three ingredients from Uniqema’s offerings. The product stipulated for the rinse-off category is mild conditioning shampoo, and that for the leave-on category is daily skin toning moisturiser. Uniqema says that the rise of Thailand’s personal care industry was made clear last year after formulators from throughout the country had submitted world-class product concepts in the hope of winning Uniqema’s Thailand Formulating Contest. The winners were Watee Ruttanavisanon of Cosmed Innovation Company and Wanida Wangcharoenroong of Bangkok Trading Cosmetics.

Watee Ruttanavisanon made a daily skin toning moisturiser considered as unsurpassed in the leaveon section of the competition. Having created a product with a first rate mix of functionality and sensory benefits, in addition to good formulation stability, he demonstrated what is possible when a formulator sets a goal of world-class product, Uniqema stated. He has five years of experience in the personal care industry and holds a degree in pharmacy from Mahidol University.

Wanida Wangcharoenroong created a mild conditioning shampoo considered to be the very best in the rinse-off category. This product is so exceptional that it may well become a best seller in Asia, Uniqema believes. Wanida Wangcharoenroong has some 17 years of experience in the personal care industry – she is the research and development manager at Bangkok Trading Cosmetics.
