More and more, China is the country that global companies are looking to as the place to grow their business. This is understandable, as China has the world’s largest consumer base of 1.3 billion people, with the total value of the Chinese personal care market potentially reaching US$32.7 billion by 2014.
But although the people are there and although the Chinese C&T market is still viewed as relatively ‘untapped’, that does not mean it is simply a case of finding a distributor and begin raking in the money. Getting to know the trends specific to China, meeting people face to face, and listening to the experiences of other people are all vital to understanding how the cosmetics industry is developing in China and how to become part of it. Events such as PCHi are ideal ways in which to increase your level of knowledge in these areas. The 2012 edition of PCHi was held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center on the 27-29 February. The show proved to be a great success with the highest number of attendees ever recorded for PCHi and exhibition stands for the 2013 show were almost sold out by the last day. A total of 278 exhibitors, 5,527 visitors, and 1,260 conference delegates attended the show, illustrating PCHi’s growing stature not only within the Chinese market, but also on the world stage. Of the 5,527 industry professionals that visited, 87.5% came from within China, and the remaining 12.5% travelled from 33 countries across the globe. The top 10 represented territories outside of mainland China were: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and The Philippines. Daniel Chan, project director, PCHi, said: “We received feedback that compared to previous editions, the show floor of PCHi 2012 was bustling with even more activity, with many more meaningful exchanges among the greater number of attendees. Visitor figures far exceeded our expectations, and we are very pleased with the encouraging figures that the show has been garnering year on year. PCHi 2013 looks set to be the biggest edition yet, with 93% of the available booths already signed up by companies.”
The Exhibition
With 278 exhibitors at PCHi, there was a huge range of products on display to help formulators create the next big product to hit the shelves. There was also a good number of new launches (a total of 26, to be exact) again illustrating the value of the event to formulators looking to keep on the leading edge of new technology. Following are the names of the 26 new launches:
