Thailand welcomes cosmetics industry

The event was re-scheduled for the 12-14 December in conjunction with in-cosmetics Asia, which gave Bangkok the opportunity to become the centre of the cosmetics industry for the week, and so the middle week in December was given the title: ‘Beauty Week in Bangkok’. Held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, the theme of the conference was ‘3E: Effective, Economic & Ecological Cosmetics’. Despite the re-scheduling the conference was attended by 356 delegates, which also included many students who had been sponsored to attend.

Opening ceremony

At the opening ceremony, the president of the IFSCC, Panvipa Krisdaphong, described the IFSCC as a worldwide federation that encourages the advancement of cosmetic science and technology as well as the dissemination of knowledge. She also said that this was the first opportunity for Thailand to host the conference and it was a great honour. Also attending the opening ceremony was the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, who said: “I’d like to express my sincere appreciation for the honour of being asked to officiate the opening of the IFSCC 2011 Conference. I would like to thank you for the opportunity given to Thailand, allowing us to host such a great event in this country during such a difficult period.” The opening ceremony closed with a lively display from traditional Thai drummers and dancers, followed by a fashion parade with clothes depicting native Thai herbs and flowers. The show illustrated the wealth of culture and natural resources within Thailand, making it particularly well disposed for the cosmetics industry, which was backed up by the excellent level of papers from Thai companies in the oral and poster sessions.
