The organisers of the SEPAWA/EDC conference from 12-14 October 2011 are expecting more than 1600 trade specialists to come to find out about the latest cosmetics, washing, detergents and cleaner trends.
All aspects of beauty care and hygiene are provided with an appropriate forum at the SEPAWA/EDC conference. One hundred and forty-five exhibiting companies, as well as highquality special lectures and scientific lectures, provide the right balance of business, information, scientific discussion, and networking. Professor Klaus-Peter Wittern, 1st chairman of SEPAWA, describes the successful concept: “As a mediator between raw-material suppliers, producers, the scientific community, and public authorities, SEPAWA has used its annual conference to establish a communication platform which continues to grow in popularity.” Topics affecting the sector are discussed comprehensively and with international distinction, during presentations and a series of scientific lectures. This is guaranteed through the involvement of the major trade associations: the Detergent Chemistry Division of the German Chemical Society (EDC conference), the DGK (the German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics), and the DGP (the German Association of Perfumers). New competition on the raw materials market due to increased demand for energy-crops for fuel- and energygeneration, is leading to innovative solutions. Alongside the expansion of the supply of plant-based raw materials and new compounds, the efficient use of known substances is also an option. In their special lectures, Professor Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker (“Megatrend Resource Productivity”) and Klaus H. Nottinger (“Oleochemical Raw Materials – Still an economic and sustainable feedstock for surfactants?”) lead the way for further stimulating discussions. Owing to very positive feedback last year, the DGK will once again address a key topic within scientific cosmetics, namely “The Skin Barrier”. Even minor damage to the skin barrier leads to imbalances in the skin’s moisture-regulation system. The maintenance of the skin barrier’s functionality therefore remains a central topic in skin care. Five lectures illuminate the causes of damage to the skin barrier and explain how these causes can be dealt with. In collaboration with SEPAWA’s Expert Group Applied Cosmetics, the lecture series “Trends” was created, in which two natural cosmetics and bio-cosmetics are also discussed. Last year’s attraction, the “Forum for Innovation”, will be considerably expanded this year. Here, visitors can attend presentations of cutting-edge products fresh from the R&D department. The DGP is announcing its presentation with a promising, mysterious title: “Game Changers – Ideas that will change the way we do business.” It is certain that excellently educated, first-class researchers will continue to ensure the industry’s success. With the awarding of their sponsorship prizes at the beginning of the SEPAWA/EDC conference, SEPAWA and the German Chemical Society are sending a clear signal for the future. SEPAWA is one of Europe’s largest expert associations. The interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and experience takes place in four national committees, three expert groups (Professional Cleaning, Legislative- Environment- Consumer, Applied Cosmetics), the German Association of Perfumers in SEPAWA, and six international sections. The groups organise lectures, excursions, and conferences. In addition, support is provided for the publication of specialist papers and the creation of learning materials. The annual SEPAWA conference has become one of the sector’s most important meeting points.
Congress venue
For the second time, the SEPAWA Congress will be held in the Esperanto Congress and Culture Center Fulda, Germany. The venue lies within walking distance of the city centre and pedestrian zone with cultural as well as architectural highlights and shopping malls.
