Formulators from Indonesia and surrounding countries are encouraged to attend FormulaCare for in depth training in laboratories and workshops. Part of this promotion began in August with road shows in Malaysia on 9 August 2010 and Jakarta, 10 August 2010.
These road shows were mini technical training days free to any formulators who wished to attend. During October these road shows will also be conducted in Thailand on 5 October 2010 and Vietnam on 7 October 2010 as well as the Philippines, 26 October 2010.
Indonesia – personal care market
The Indonesian market is one that ingredient suppliers and cosmetic manufacturing companies cannot afford to neglect. Cosmetic manufacturers, both local and multinationals, total more than 700 companies. Of those 700 companies 18 local cosmetic manufacturers and 12 multinational comprise the top 30 suppliers to the many consumers of the country. Indonesia’s personal care industry defies global downturn. During 2009 Indonesia posted a 10% increase from 2008. Not many markets can claim this growth in the industry. A fiscal stimulus package amounting to around US$6.5 billion (1.4% of GDP) helped to support investment and consumption over 2008 and 2009. Domestic demand accounts for around two-thirds of GDP in Indonesia, meaning that the country is not as vulnerable to the slowdown in export markets as many of its neighbours. The personal care market is estimated at US$1970 million retail value in 2009, with a growth rate predicted at around 10% for the next few years. The important categories in the market are:
