in-cosmetics Asia has announced its workshop programme for 2010. The additions to the educational line-up for 2010 will see two of the industry’s most revered experts – Jean-Jacques Bourgois and Prof.
Dr Johann Wiechers – give delegates critical advice on how to break into the European cosmetics market and what it takes to create the perfect formulation. Following the launch of the new EU Cosmetics Regulation, co-founder and president of Biorius, Jean-Jacques Bourgois will address “Regulations for Exporting to Europe” while Prof. Dr Johann Wiechers will examine “Basic and Advanced Formulation” at the leading exhibition and conference for personal care ingredients in Asia. Adhering to the main EU regulatory framework is absolutely essential for any product to succeed in Europe. Although it is complex, understanding the intricacies of regulations is the only way that Asian companies stand any chance of achieving international success on the scale of Shiseido or Giffarine. With the recent recast and subsequent amendments to the regime, it can be difficult for companies to identify exactly what falls within the guidelines and importantly, what does not. So, in the first of the brand new workshops, Jean-Jacques Bourgois will give attendees exclusive “behind the scenes” access to the four main axes around which the regulation revolves from formulation to exporting. Regulations for Exporting to Europe will explore the key issues Asian exporters must address by examining an in-depth study of ISO Good Manufacturing Practice Standards which gives guidelines for the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products. It will also look at how to compile the product information file, the function of the “responsible person” and nanomaterials. Looking at the market from a developmental perspective, ex-IFSCC president Prof. Dr Johann Wiechers, will give delegates a comprehensive overview of basic and advanced formulation in two new additions to the educational programme. “HLB in action: Theory and Practice of Stabilising Topical Formulations” is critical for those keen to master physical stability – one of the fundamental principals behind cosmetic formulation. Meanwhile, “Effective Formulating Beyond HLB: Advance Level”, will teach delegates how to optimise the physical stability, and the sensory characteristics of a formulation and the skin delivery of actives from this formulation all at once. Developing a formulation takes time, however, by mixing the various techniques into a logical process, it is possible to create an optimised cosmetic formula in just 20 minutes.
