Exhibition assists learning curve

FormulaCare i-2010 was held in Manila on 17 and 18 March. This unique and new style of exhibition was the forerunner of a novel technology transfer designed to assist formulators in the ASEAN region and judging by the comments of the visitors, it has achieved its objective.

Official opening

An official opening in the form of a cocktail party was held on the evening prior to the workshops for formulators and exhibitors. Officials invited to this informal get-together were the Honorable Alexander Padilla, undersecretary to the Department of Health, and Nazarita Tacandong, director of the Bureau of Food and Drugs. Both VIPs were impressed with the concept of FormulaCare and asked if they could send laboratory staff from the government laboratories to attend the workshops. The Department of Health and the Department of Food and Drugs are very important in the cosmetic industry in Philippines as they have a large say in rules and regulations as well as the recent ASEAN Cosmetic Directive (harmonisation of regulations in ASEAN). Along with these VIPs were the president of the Philippines Society for Cosmetic Science (PSCS) Evelyn Fontanilla, and the president for The Chamber of Cosmetics Industry of the Philippines (CCIP), Roy Comagon, as well as Jessica Plana, treasurer for the ASEAN Cosmetics Association (ACA).
