In a fiercely fought competition, Dr Alain Khaiat beat three other finalists to take home the Lifetime Achievement award at a glittering ceremony at this year's in-cosmetics show. Dr Karl Lintner, Dr Daniel Maes and Dr Johann Wiechers were all in the running but it was Dr Khaiat's dedication to the cosmetic industry that saw him come out top.
The in-cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award honours an outstanding individual whose professional accomplishments have made a significant and lasting impact on the field of cosmetic science. More than 1,800 people cast their vote before it was whittled down to four deserving finalists, all of whom then battled it out in a public vote.
Dr. Khaiat has been involved in the field of science for over 40 years and even post-retirement continues to contribute significantly to the cosmetic industry. He has worked for several large companies throughout his career, including Revlon, where he coordinated all technical activities outside of the USA, Yves Rocher Cosmetics, where he was responsible for a range of key product developments and Johnson & Johnson.
Dr Khaiat has always dedicated his time to educating and emphasising the importance of safety within the cosmetics industry and was the founding member of several ASEAN associations. Indeed, he has been credited for bringing together the Asian, American and European cosmetic markets and is considered to be a key educator in the field.
Dr Khaiat, said about receiving his award: "I am really overwhelmed to receive this award. Although it is great to win, the most important part for me is that it is recognition for everything that I have done in my career. I am delighted that my colleagues and peers have such fond memories of our time spent working together."
Richard Hesk, group exhibition director, commented: “While all of the finalists are extremely deserving of their nominations, we'd like to say a huge congratulations to Dr Khaiat. He has long been a leading figure within the cosmetics industry and we're pleased to be able to recognise this and pass on the commendation he deserves. We were overwhelmed with the response we had to the awards and the number of votes cast. It goes to show just how valued each finalist is within their field and how their hard work and dedication has inspired others within the industry."
