Newly-launched BACPOP, the British Association of Cold Pressed Oil Producers, aims to protect and promote the quality of the home grown premium product while also representing British farmers producing cold pressed oils including rapeseed, hemp, flax, strawberry seed, borage and others. These versatile oils are used for both culinary and healthcare purposes.
The 12 members of BACPOP represent over 80 % of the total cold pressed oil market in the UK. Collectively they have developed standards and protocols for cold pressed seed for use in food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals; share technical information among the membership and educate the consumer about the products.
Henry Noon, of Statfold Seed Oils, the Association chairman, said recently the industry welcomes the new Association: “I am proud to be part of the drive to create definitive standards for cross industry use of cold pressed seeds to continue to produce the best quality oil possible. These oils have exceptional health benefits and are a natural source of essential fatty acids and natural vitamins. We hope to increase their use in many other products in the future.”
