Silverson to give SCS Formulate mixers masterclass

Silverson Machines will be demonstrating how to create a basic cosmetic cream emulsion using their multipurpose laboratory mixers at next month’s SCS Formulate trade show in Coventry, UK.

The demonstrations will take place at 11.30am on both days of the show, 12 and 13 November, at Silverson Machines’ stand 327.

“If you're making a cosmetic cream or lotion, mixing is the critical stage in forming a stable emulsion and obtaining the right consistency, skinfeel and functionality in the end product,” said a spokeswoman.

“The key to creating a stable emulsion is obtaining a fine, uniform droplet size. The more shear energy introduced into the mix, the smaller the droplets will become, resulting in a stable, homogeneous emulsion,” she added.

“This makes Silverson High Shear Mixers ideal for this application; they are capable of creating emulsions with a droplet size of 2 - 5 microns. Finer emulsions down to 0.5 microns can also be obtained, depending on the formulation.”

Also on the stand will be a Silverson Pilot Scale AX mixer, ideal for batch sizes up to 50 litres and a Silverson Verso laboratory-scale in-line mixer.

Silverson recently launched a series of new mixer variants, which have been developed in response to demand for small-scale in-line mixers that bridge the gap between the British company’s laboratory scale mixers and production scale mixers.

These include: 150 UHS small-scale in-line mixer;  088/150 UHS small-scale multistage in-line mixer;  UHS-HV small-scale in-line mixer; and FMX10 small-scale powder/liquid mixer.
