Nagase Viita (former Hayashibara) will present its latest findings on Glucosyl Naringin (GN), an upcycled glycosylated citrus polyphenol, at 2024 IFSCC Congress in Brazil.

GN is a sustainable active ingredient developed through our proprietary glycosylation technology.
By combining glucose with its aglycon Naringin, its water solubility increased by more than 6,000 times compared to Naringin, enabling it to be effectively used in skin care products.
It is scientifically proven to improve skin elasticity by promoting both the quality and quantity of elastin, making it a beneficial ingredient for anti-aging products. Our recent studies have shown that the effects of GN strengthen the skin’s barrier function and reduce UVB-induced stresses.
Strengthening the Skin Barrier Function
Maintaining a healthy skin barrier is essential to preventing skin irritation and dryness. Several components of the stratum corneum (SC) contribute to its barrier function. Filaggrin plays an important role by aggregating keratin within the SC to form keratin filaments. Meanwhile, the cornified envelope, a strong, membrane-like structure, protects the corneocytes. Both are essential to the overall structure of the SC.
In recent testing, the treatment by GN promoted the formation of cornified envelope and production of profilaggrin, precursor of filaggrin, which contributes to the strength and flexibility of SC. The results suggest that GN enhances skin barrier function and helps restore its natural strength.
Reducing UVB induced stresses
UVB, a medium-wavelength ultraviolet radiation, is a known cause of sunburn. Its exposure induces an inflammatory response in the skin, leading to dark spots and wrinkles (Ichihashi et al., 2009). Our in vitro studies have shown that GN helps protect the skin from UVB-induced inflammation.
