Jamie Bentley steps down from Stephenson Personal Care leadership

Stephenson has promoted Robert Carr to managing director after the long-serving Jamie Bentley stood down from the UK-based personal care ingredient maker.

Carr (pictured, left), formerly chief operating officer, has over 26 years of experience within the company based near Leeds, West Yorkshire.

“His expertise and insight into what is needed for the next stage of the company's journey positions him as a natural choice for the role,” the company said in a statement.

Bentley (pictured, middle) is the great-great grandson of Thomas Bentley, who founded Stephenson in 1856 to make soap-based agents for the processing of wool.

Jamie Bentley joined Stephenson in 1998 to lead the speciality soap business and the following year launched Crystal Melt & Pour soap base, which became an instant hit for personal care applications.

Bentley expressed deep gratitude to his team, as well as his father and chairman Richard Bentley, for their achievements.

"I've loved every moment of growing Stephenson Personal Care and I firmly believe that true leadership lies in empowering others to excel,” he said.

“Recognising the need for a fresh perspective to steer the business toward even greater heights, I am delighted to announce the well-deserved promotion of Rob Carr to the position of managing director.”

In addition, Stephenson has appointed Sarah Bradley (pictured, right), former CEO of Kerfoot Group and general manager of Avril Specialty Ingredients, as its new executive chair.

“Sarah's wealth of experience and global market expertise will contribute significantly to the company's strategic direction,” it said.

The remainder of the board remains unchanged, and Jamie Bentley, as a major shareholder, will continue as an active member.
