Procter & Gamble (P&G) has agreed to pay $8 million to settle class action lawsuits claiming various aerosolised personal care products contain benzene.
The US giant has not admitted any wrongdoing but voluntarily agreed the payout to resolve the allegations.
P&G recalled several of its aerosol products in December 2021 due to benzene contamination.
The settlement will benefit consumers who purchased Aussie, Hair Food, Herbal Essences, Old Spice, Pantene, Secret and Waterl<ss aerosol antiperspirant, deodorant, body spray, dry shampoo or dry conditioner products between 4 November 2015 and 31 December 2021.
Each consumer who files a valid claim can receive either a monetary payment of up to $3.50 for each P&G aerosol product purchased, or a voucher for the same product.
In addition, P&G has agreed to implement material testing, finished product testing and other measures to monitor for benzene contamination in the future.
