BASF has launched ComfortBD, a natural CBD-based active ingredient derived from industrial hemp, for the US market.
ComfortBD is said to maximise benefits in skincare formulas, helping to mattify and soothe the skin along with reducing the appearance of red, irritated skin.
The active is naturally extracted from L. cannabis sativa and is supported by full in vitro and in vivo test data that demonstrate high performance and quality.
ComfortBD, with monitored levels of CBD over 80% and less than 0.2% total THC, demonstrates its efficacy in both in vitro and in vivo tests.
Furthermore, the development of diverse skin care formulations shows the flexibility of ComfortBD in final products with no impact on colour or odour.
“Since the pandemic, consumers have shifted their preferences, looking for sustainable and efficient solutions, and CBD is the perfect candidate for this as it’s a natural solution that provides relaxing and calming properties” said Nader Mahmoud, BASF North America vice president business management for personal care.
“Our research & development team has deep expertise with plant and botanical extracts. They found the exact synergy and combination to create an active ingredient extracted from L. cannabis sativa sourced and sustainably grown in the United States.”
The hemp is grown on farms in the United States that intend to seek certification for their organic growing practices.
