Chinese manufacturer Jiangsu JLand Biotech has launched its new range of Biollagen-Lipo products at in-cosmetics Global in Paris.
Biollagen-Lipo combines Jland’s type 3 recombinant collagen, Biollagen, with the skin-penetrating power of liposomes.
Liposomes are hollow spheres formed when lipids spontaneously form a bilayer when exposed to water.
This spontaneous formation is due to their structure; the hydrophobic tails arrange themselves in the middle away from water, while the hydrophilic heads create the inner and outer surfaces of the membrane.
The liposome-encapsulated grade of collagen allows Biollagen to penetrate the skin more efficiently.
The company said an independent European lab study shows 2.6 times more Biollagen-Lipo is found in the epidermis after seven hours than free Biollagen.
“Liposome technology has been used in the past for various uses, most notably it has been extensively studied for drug delivery systems,” said Dr Sam Donnelly, the technical manager of Jland Biotech Europe.
“Jland has used this technology for cosmetics applications, allowing them to achieve better skin penetration for their non-animal collagen, Biollagen. As previously stated, this hosts many other benefits and will be the first available product that combines collagen and liposomes in this way,” he added.
