SBTi confirms highest standard for Symrise

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has confirmed the contribution Symrise’s sustainability goals are making to climate protection in terms of keeping anthropogenic temperature increase due to the greenhouse effect to no more than 1.5ºC.

The company is one of the first three in Germany in this initiative, having been one of the first 100 in the world to set SBTi-approved goals in 2017.

“Our high standards ensure that we can operate climate-positive starting in 2030, particularly through increasing process and energy efficiency and specific certified climate protection projects,” said chief sustainability officer Bernhard Kott.

Symrise has committed itself to reducing absolute greenhouse gas emissions from Scopes 1 and 2 by 80% from 2020 to 2028 and Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030. It has already achieved the target of securing all of its electricity from renewable sources and is now asking suppliers to define their own energy and climate goals. The manufacture of raw materials accounts for around 92% of Scope 3 emissions.
