Consumer products giant Unilever has announced the second challenge in its Positive Beauty Growth Platform
Start-ups, scale-ups and academic spinouts are being invited to partner with it to “bring brilliant functional ingredients that work with nature to our Beauty & Personal Care products and packaging”.
Submissions opened on 9 March and will close on 11 April, with virtual live challenge presentations taking place on 23-27 May. The winners will be selected after this by a panel of Unilever leaders and experts. The first challenge last year saw some 300 apply and 33 of them were selected to work with Unilever.
The company said that it launched the platform to support its Positive Beauty vision, which it describes as “an industry-leading series of progressive commitments and actions … championing a new era of beauty which is equitable and inclusive, as well as sustainable for the planet”.
“We’re creating the next generation of technologies and ingredients for our beauty and personal care products that are not only highly effective, but also natural and sustainable,” said chief R&D officer Richard Slater. “Collaborating with disruptive new players in this space is going to lead to even more breakthroughs as we grow our business and portfolio for a future where people and planet can thrive together.”
