Three ingredients in IFF’s Health & Biosciences’s Genencare OSMS range of personal care bioactives have achieved certification through the Upcycled Food Association’s (UFA) Upcycled Certified Programme
The three are Genencare OSMS BA, MI and CC. Their bioactive ingredients, betaine and inositol, are obtained from sugar beet molasses, a by-product of sugar beet processing. Applications are found in skin moisturisation and barrier strengthening by improving skin elasticity.
IFF has developed technology enabling sugar mills to extract more sugar from the de-sugarisation process. Betaine molasses can then be processed into cosmetic ingredients in the form of highly purified crystalline powders.
IFF, which has been an associate member of the UFA since 2019, is one of the first ingredient suppliers to receive this certification in the cosmetic active category. The Upcycled Certification Programme is the world’s only third-party certification programme for upcycled food ingredients and products.
