German firm Courage+Khazaka has launched two new products aimed at testing different properties of the human skin with applications in both cosmetology and dermatology.
The MoistureMap MM 200 features new hardware and software to take high quality images that give detailed information about the efficacy of cosmetic products and the micro-topography of the skin by measuring hydration distribution. Key features and benefits include:
- A very flat sensor surface without metal rim
- A capture function on the probe handle
- New moisture homogeneity distribution value
- Permittivity results
- Multiple topographic measurements (i.e. polygon size, corner density and anisotropy index)
- 3D-style images
- Selection of an ROI and comparison of two ROIs in one image
The Drop Angle Meter DM 300, meanwhile, is a new instrument to assess the wettability, the free surface energy, the tension and the hydrophilic/hydrophobic properties of a surface like the skin. By characterising the shape of an applied drop, several parameters and results can be obtained to assess:
- The effects of products on skin and hair (i.e. degreasing, washing and moisturising)
- Water resistance
- Spreadability
- Water repellence
- Tissue engineering
