US firm Amyris, which specialises in sustainable ingredients for the clean health and beauty, flavours and fragrances markets, has formed a partnership with actress Naomi Watts. Under this, it will use its Lab-to-Market science and technology to create a new consumer brand to provide science-backed personal care products for menopause wellness that will launch in 2022.
Watts is the co-founder of Onda Beauty and has a personal commitment to clean skincare, wellness and destigmatising menopause. “In partnering with Amyris, we’re endeavouring to equip all phases of menopause with products, tools and resources that make us feel celebrated and empowered, both physically and emotionally,” she said.
About 75% of all women experience symptoms of menopause, which can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life, increased use of medical resources and an overall loss of productivity. “Stigma, lack of open discussion, and a very small product offering at an affordable price contribute to a major barrier to care for women,” Amyris said.
