Acquisition boosts predicting efficacy and NPD speed

Testing is a vital aspect of our industry, not only for finished products, but also for the individual ingredients themselves. Testing services and devices enable the evaluation of ingredients to show their efficacy, safety and stability.

However, while the need for more complex and data-hungry tests has increased, so has the need to be fast-to-market as the industry attempts to service new trends at an everincreasing rate.

Earlier this year, Symrise signed a contract to acquire the Italian biotech company Cutech in Padua. The enterprise offers pre-clinical screening services for cosmetic ingredients and finished formulations. The purchase will expand the expertise of Symrise in the efficacy testing of cosmetic ingredients and open new opportunities for collaboration with partners from scientific institutions. It will also increase the go-to-market speed for novel active ingredients.

At the time of the signing, Dr Gerhard Schmaus, head of Global Innovation Cosmetic Ingredients Division at Symrise, said: “Cutech constitutes the perfect fit for Symrise’s Cosmetic Ingredients Division. The highly specific R&D and biotechnology capabilities of Cutech optimally complement the research expertise of Symrise.”
