PCHi and the Chinese cosmetics market

Personal Care magazine spoke to Mr Yang Jianzhong, Member of the PCHi Industry Panel, President of Japan-China Cosmetic Exchange Association, and Ms Elynn XU, project manager, PCHi, to find out more about next year’s PCHi and the state of the cosmetics industry in China.

PC: How is cosmetic ingredient technology developing in China at present?

YJ: The development of cosmetic ingredients in China is still in its early stages, and there is a lot of room for improvement within the market. At the moment, cost is of a greater concern than creating new innovations. Many domestic suppliers currently look at what global competitors have produced and then try to reproduce similar innovations that are as efficacious but of lower cost.
