Latest trends explored in Bangkok

This October, the cosmetics industry returns to Bangkok for in-cosmetics. The Thai capital has proved a popular host for the annual event with its bustling streets as well as a thriving personal care industry.

The 2013 exhibition will once again showcase the latest ingredient technology from Asia and beyond, making the event an invaluable week in the calendar for any company looking to keep up with the latest trends in personal care. Early indications show that in-cosmetics Asia 2013 is shaping up to be one of the exhibition’s biggest yet. With just over four months until the doors open in Bangkok, interest in the show is exceeding 2012 figures – exhibitor numbers are already up 35% compared to last year with suppliers from South Korea up as much as 77% and those from China 43% – with total exhibitor numbers expected to reach over 300 for the first time. New exhibitors include City Flower (Guangzhou) from China, Nippon Fine Chemical from Japan and Catalite from Thailand. Clariant also returns to the show after a five-year absence. Last year’s edition welcomed 5,136 visitors from 53 countries with China, South Korea, India and Japan all in the top ten. Of these visitors, 60% were attending for the first time and 27% of these represented companies that had never visited before, providing opportunities for exhibitors to network and do business with new customers. Following his company’s success in 2012, Frank Tan at Fenchem (China) commented: “We will definitely be exhibiting at the show in 2013 and will be increasing our stand size by 30%.” The 2013 show builds on this success with new visitor attractions and an educational programme packed with never-before-seen topics that will provide visitors with the tools they need to achieve product success across different markets. To generate even greater interest in the run-up to the show, in-cosmetics Asia is hitting the road with two mini-events; the Indonesia Roadshow, in association with the Indonesian Society of Cosmetic Science on 30 August and The South Korea Conference, held at the same time as the Korean Design Beauty Expo on 12 September. Both these territories represent exciting opportunities for manufacturers. With a population of 250 million, Indonesia’s local cosmetics and toiletries market is booming and was up 14.7% in 2012 making the potential for business huge. In South Korea, the cosmetics market is highly sophisticated and arguably the most innovative in Asia, allowing manufacturers to take advantage of new ingredient launches to develop high-tech products. At these mini-events, selected exhibitors can meet with manufacturers and demonstrate the types of innovations that will be on show at the main in-cosmetics Asia show in October. “in-cosmetics Asia is the ideal platform to launch new products,” comments Sarah Gibson, exhibition director. “Eighty-eight per cent of 2012 exhibitors said they were likely to attend this year’s show and we’ve seen a lot of interest in our ‘hand holding’ package which provides invaluable support for first-time exhibitors. In such a diverse region it is essential to meet face-to-face to discuss opportunities and challenges, as well as discover new products and technologies. And what better place than at in-cosmetics Asia?” Key cosmetic manufacturers including Beiersdorf, Chanel, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oréal and Shiseido attended in-cosmetics Asia in 2012 and the focus for 2013 is on attracting even more formulators and R&D professionals from both Asia pacific and the wider international cosmetics and personal care community. At the time of writing, some of the new companies due to make a debut at the show were:

•  Tongxiang Hengji Biotechnology (China) – Stand K69.
•  IBR Ltd (Israel) – Stand J36.
•  Thai Sanki Co. Ltd. (Thailand) – Stand L60.
•  Fujimori Kogyo Co., Ltd (Japan) – Stand K60, L61.
•  Skycent Chemicals Co. Ltd (China) – Stand L56.
