In an environment where regulation has an essential role to play and where formulators are searching for new and repeatable ingredients, ID bio offers an efficient answer thanks to a new range of ingredients.
The range is composed of botanical extracts titrated in an identified active molecule. Used by the majority of the manufacturers and beauty formulators, botanical extracts give the ability to use natural ingredients in their formulations. Nevertheless, these raw materials do not always offer the technical, regulatory and marketing support which is expected nowadays. Also, they do not give always offer a guarantee in terms of reproducibility. In view of this, ID bio has decided to complete its offering by creating the TitrExtract range.
Safety and non-toxicity
With the growth of requirements in the cosmetics industry, an ingredient’s traceability and reproducibility is now vitally important. Safety and non-toxicity are the goals of cosmetic products in order to be transparent and to build confident relationships between formulators and their suppliers. This information is all the more true for extracts which have few physicochemical analyses. Thus, it is essential for ingredients manufacturers to establish partnerships with their clients to help them comply with the ‘cosmetic product safety report’ of the regulation (EC) 1223/2009 that will be in effect in the coming months. In this context, ID bio has decided to extend its range of titrated (standardised) botanical extracts. These new ingredients are the result of listening to customers’ needs and they are based on a 100% organic composition, the plant aspect and the extract characterisation which constitutes an interesting way to best control the extraction. ID bio provides regulatory and toxicological support that offers an efficient solution to beauty formulators in view of current requirements. The company makes available to all its clients all documentation necessary for ingredient safety. Thus, the raw material follows the supply chain with a guarantee that enables the repeatability and the reproducibility of the ingredient. The TitrExtract range offers an intermediate product between the classical extract and the active ingredient. To complete this product offer, marketing support is available for each ingredient and highlights claims linked to the titrated molecule. The common approach of the marketing and the R&D departments consists of defining a claim for each extract so as to enhance the botanical origin, the historical uses and to work on the objectification and analytical characterisation of the plants. The work done beforehand is turned towards the relationship between the claim and the titrated molecule. Then, the action mechanism is supported by a bibliography to offer the most accurate activity. Once these criteria are defined, the second step consists of searching for the active component by realising a plant screening process with adapted and soft extraction methods. The core business of ID bio, botanical extraction, is developed and reinforced with new analytical methods adapted to the titrated molecule. Depending on the extract, the best method will help to evaluate, in a qualitative and quantitative way, the molecule or the family of molecules targeted. This will also help the R&D department to control and enrich its bibliographical and analytical skills by scanning new techniques such as chromatography and also to improve the spectrophotometric methods. Today, three new titrated extracts are added to the four existing ones in the TitrExtract range. They all offer common advantages: 100% organic certified by Ecocert (with a special production unit dedicated to organic products), respect of COSMOS requirements, preservative-free and with toxicological (pesticides, heavy metals, cutaneous tolerance and allergens) and regulatory support available (material safety data sheet, regulatory sheet and technical data sheet).
